Québec City

The province's capital and a Unesco world heritage city, Québec City has over 660,000 inhabitants and is located in the heart of a region with a population of almost 1 million. Québec City is the second largest economic center in Québec, and the seventh in Canada.

Based mainly on the service industry and largely dominated by public administration, the economy in the Québec City region has managed to diversify these last few years in such growth sectors as multimedia, optics and photonics, biotechnology and geomatics. With its high-quality labour force, prestigious educational institutes and internationally recognized research centers and institutes, Québec City now boasts one of the highest gross domestic products in North America, prompting an investment growth that is above the nation's average and an unemployment rate that is close to full employment.

Qualified Labour
Québec City has many bastions of learning. Université Laval, the first French-speaking university in America, now teaches over 35,000 students. Branches of Université du Québec, like the École nationale d'administration publique and the Institut Nationale de recherche scientifique, make this city a place that is renowned for innovation, research and the exchange of ideas.

Accessibility
Located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, Québec City has modern transportation facilities and equipment that blend together in a harmonious intermodal network.

The city's principal assets are its deep-water port that is open year-round, its international airport that is less than 15 kilometres away from the downtown core, and its efficient highway and railway systems that open up to all of Canada and the United States.

Québec City is the fifth cheapest city in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific for setting up and doing business.

City's 400th Anniversary
July 3, 2008 will mark Québec City's 400th anniversary. Many seminars and international events will be held in the city mainly or partly in celebration of this event.
