Ottawa - The City
Nestled at the junction of three picturesque rivers, Ottawa is considered one of the world's most beautiful capitals. The city also borders the province of Québec, creating a dynamic cultural milieu in which both French and English cultures are deeply rooted. The result is a truly cosmopolitan experience—a North American city with a distinctly European charm and flair.
Population
With 1.15 million residents and counting, Ottawa boasts a steadily growing population. The majority of residents are aged 20-60 years, and are located within less than an hour's flight of Toronto and the United States.
Economy
Ottawa holds a regional real GDP of over $40 billion annually, a strong and steadily growing figure expected to rise by 16% over the next four years. Its tourism alone creates an economic impact of over $1 billion per year towards Canada's Capital Region.
Capital
Ottawa has always strongly supported venture capital with major funding, helping greatly to boost its economic growth. With such a strong and diversified economy, Ottawa plays host to the headquarters of over 350 National Associations, in addition to more than 800 national corporations specializing in high technology, health and life sciences.
Workforce
Ottawa is home to a workforce that holds both the highest bilingualism rate at 44%, in addition to the highest number of residents in Canada with a post-secondary education. In the city of Ottawa resides more PhD's, scientists and engineers than in any other city in the entire country. Thus Ottawa's workforce embraces the spirits of both diversity, and success.
Location
Both Canadian and American customers and suppliers live directly within, or an hour's drive or flight from Ottawa. The city's airport is located only 20 minutes outside of the downtown core. By offering over 30 direct flights per day to major American cities, and daily flights to international destinations, the markets of cities such as Boston, Chicago, and London are more than accessible.
Transportation
Several major highways connect Ottawa directly to Montreal, Toronto, and Kingston, providing ample exchange between the cities. Via Rail and a light-train service provide both inter and inner city travel by train for Ottawa, while two local airports and one international airport, moving over 3 million passengers annually, supply Ottawa with air service to and from nearly any location worldwide.
Transit
The OC Transpo system provides public transit for the people of Ottawa. Operating over 950 buses and moving 87 million passengers per year, Ottawa's modern and efficient transport system opens the entire city up to its residents and workforce.
